3 Ways to Enjoy more External Freedom

This blog is about increasing your choices in life and creating more internal peace at the same time.  That is what I mean by Internal and External Freedom. Debt, corporate jobs, debit cards are all ways that the financial and government interests profit from and control. The more control they have the less freedom we enjoy. These are three ways that I’m increasing the freedom I enjoy. Two of the three will take time, but the first step to enjoying more freedom can be done right now.

  1. Cash is King – I use cash as much as possible. It keeps banks from profiting from interchange fees and keeps my transactions anonymous. The Federal Reserve System, Wall Street and the Banking Industry are propped up by the FDIC and tax payers. They are allowed to profit while the rest of us suffer when they destroy the economy because of their criminal business practices. If you think the TARP bailouts were wrong, if you think that the Stock Market is rigged, if you think fractional reserve banking is a scam – then use cash. This is a way to vote with your dollars to defund the Banksters and in turn the politicians who receive “speaking fees” and donations. Cash also allows for anonymous transactions. I used to work at a bank. Every time you swipe your debit card you are creating an entry on you bank statement that every person in the bank can view and it creates a paper trail for any number of  government agencies to view as well. Bank customers are regularly “audited” by bank employees without their knowledge. Any suspicious activity is then forwarded to authorities. Bank statements are also frequently subpoenaed for all types of civil and criminal cases. I’m not advocating breaking the law or that everyone who uses cash is a criminal. But think about why politicians and banks are always pushing for people to use debit cards and get the “underbanked” into the system? It’s not for our benefit. When I use cash I am voting with my dollars. I know it’s still using the “Federal Reserve Note” but until a competing currency is legalized this is my choice to live more free. Bitcoin and Dash coin are two interesting options that I’m going to look into as well.
  2. Make your own Income – Being able to generate your own income without a boss is a critical step toward improving your external freedom. Don’t quit your job until your side hustle is equivalent to your current income. If you are not sure what to do, spend the next five days visualizing what it would be like to be your own boss, keep what you earn, and what your life would be like if you were thrilled and excited to wake up everyday. The first step toward success is believing that you can do it. Set up criteria for how you want to live your life, how you want to spend your day, and why you are doing this. Find something you enjoy or that you know a lot about and begin today. It might take two, five or ten years but it will take longer if you wait till “Monday” to start. Once you are in charge of your own income you no longer have to conform to the corporate PC bullshit world, get yelled at by uncaring bosses, or have to be yelled at by customers because of changing policies instituted by a board of directors who are never have to deal directly with the people who fund their lavish lifestyles. You can live your life on your own terms more and more and it can start today. That is what this blog is all about. Sparking personal revolutions so that more and more people can live more free. I recommend reading “Rich Dad Poor Dad” on kindle. You can get it for less than $5 and you can start reading it now. This book helped me to change my mindset of a drone to an owner. https://www.amazon.com/Rich-Dad-Poor-Robert-Kiyosaki-ebook/dp/B004XZR63M
  3. Pay off Debt – One of the best ways to do this is to free yourself from your mortgage or better yet never get one. The 30 year mortgage is how the government/financial institutions control the masses. They use this to keep people stuck. Stuck in jobs they hate and stuck in areas that they would rather leave. My answer to the mortgage question is to buy or build a tiny home on a trailer. I am setting my budget at $25,ooo and I’m paying cash for it as soon as I can. I’m going to travel the country set up shop where I want to and then go where the wind takes me. This is why I’m choosing to work for myself and choosing work I can do anywhere and still create income. By being mobile I’m no longer a slave to zoning laws or building codes. I’m not a slave to a bank. I’m not a slave to “housing prices” that are manipulated and can be destroyed by those in power. We are descendants of hunter/gatherers who had to be mobile because game moved, the seasons changed, plants produced fruit at different times of the year in different locations, and hostile tribes invaded.  We are built to be mobile. Modern society has all of these chains thrown around us that we help them put on to keep us enslaved and in place. This causes our well-being, our economy and our families livelihood to become intertwined and to a large degree dependent on the actions of a few individuals in the Federal Reserve, in the Financial System and in Government. By buying a tiny home I am rejecting the “American Dream” and embracing the “Brad Dream”.

My external freedom plan is still in progress and it will never be complete. Life is a journey. I used to get so frustrated that I couldn’t do anything to become more free because of the government or because of the debt I was in or because I needed insurance and had to work a job I hated. By choosing to use cash even though I’m still not where I want to be in life helps me to feel more liberated. If you can’t do anything else for a year then do that. It takes a little getting used to and people actually look at you funny when you use it but it is a liberating feeling knowing you are depriving banksters of profit and increasing your financial privacy at the same time.

I’m still working on generating my own income. I’ve chosen blogging, podcasting, primal health coaching and in the near future personal training as ways of generating my own income.  I don’t advise you to quit your job right away. Read about how other people are living on their own terms, become more mentally free by visualizing what life you truly desire to live, and take small steps each day to make it happen. There will be failure, there will be frustration and it will feel scary. Internal freedom is the first step to external freedom because it builds the mental infrastructure and perspective to take calculated risks and persevere when you step out into the unknown. Personal development, communication skills, interpersonal skills, selling skills and physical strength and fitness are all elements that you can improve in the interim even if you don’t know what your own business will be. The more you improve yourself the quicker you’ll be able to say to your boss that “you are done eating shit sandwiches” and that you are making it on your own.
There are tons of shows on HGTV and DIY that showcase tiny homes. This is not for everyone I understand that. But think about all the space that is not used in your home. Think about how many hours you’ve had to work to pay the mortgage, to pay for repairs, to pay for insurance, to pay for property taxes? Now think about 2008 when most home prices were cut in half because of the choices of the Banksters and the Government. I don’t want the value of my biggest investment (according to society)  to be controlled by others. A traditional home is really a liability and not an investment anyway. That is another lie sold to us by the bankseters and politicians. A tiny home allows me to be more free from debt, from others controlling my location, my net worth, and my ability to live my life on my own terms. I’m also looking forward to the limited space because it will encourage me to spend my time and money on experiences and enjoying the company of friends and families instead of buying and acquiring things.

The powers that be want us to think that everything is disconnected, that our diets, our health, religion, banking, home ownership, taxes, zoning laws, building codes, our work life, how and what we think, where we live, and our attitude are not interconnected. But it is all connected. These external and internal forces are always working to shape our decisions in the direction of more freedom for us or more freedom for others at our expense. There are the ambitious and interested individuals in the Financial World and the Government that want us to be enslaved, confused, compliant and distracted. The more control they get the less freedom and less choices we have. By taking these three steps I am increasing both my internal and external freedom and at the same time helping improve my health and helping others lead a freer and healthier life as well. When you are more free in different areas of your life, you are taking back control from those that are profiting by your enslavement. My plan is still evolving. Even though creating a thriving business is still months away and my tiny home is probably over a year away I’m more and more free in the moment when I visualize living life on my own terms, I’m more and more free every time I take a small step to make these things happen and I’m more and more free in the moment when I choose to pay at the gas station with cash instead of using my debit card.

It may seem hopeless that one person can effect change on a national or global level. But it’s not. When one person decides to become free and sets an example  it can cause the spark that ignites the personal revolution of millions. And if its not me who does that I hope that my my writings, my thoughts and my actions help spark the revolution of the person who does reach millions. Don’t doubt your ability to change your own life for the better. Don’t doubt your influence. Don’t doubt that you can live a freer life and don’t doubt that it can begin today.

Internal Locus of Control

Internal and external freedom is predicated on the fact that you have internalized the knowledge that you own yourself. Part of this realization that you own yourself is that you are also responsible for yourself. This is the key principle behind the concept of having an Internal Locus of Control. Your own desires, your own wants, your own needs, your own abilities, your own experiments of action, determine how you are going to live your life. By having an Internal Locus of Control you are throwing off the last of the mental shackles that can keep you from living a life of a free person. Your fate is in your hands.

The opposite of having an Internal Locus of Control is having an External Locus of Control. This is when others determine what you think, how you act, what your priorities are and what you have and experience in life. Part of having an External Locus of Control is giving up your inherent right of self-ownership and allowing others to make decisions for you. This can mean that you place your External Locus of Control within family members, the church, your peer group or the government. All of these choices create the shackles of helplessness that destroy internal and external freedom.

External Freedom only exists when Internal Freedom is realized. If you allow your mind to remain shackled by the will of others and you believe that your fate is in their hands or that external events determine the outcomes of your life then your will never be free. Don’t give people that power. Decide today that you and you alone determine your course in life. That you have control on how your life turns out. That you are the captain of your ship. You are the motive power as Ayn Rand was found of saying for your life. You have more of a capacity to create, to invent, to persuade, to communicate, to build and to love than you can imagine. You alone are best able to determine how your life should be spent and how to achieve what you desire.

Freedom can be a scary thing at first. I remember when I stopped believing in god. My first thought was what’s going to happen when I stop praying? Will horrible things start occurring? It didn’t. Life went on. In fact I was happier because I wasn’t waiting around for some invisible bearded man to find me “worthy” to grant my wishes. I was free to use my abilities to improve my life instead of waiting on an outside force to intervene. It also freed me from the guilt of “sinning” as well and the fear of hell. You don’t know how these concepts distort your thinking and how you interact with others and see the world until you throw off these mental shackles.

Along with religion I also through off the shackles of the belief that government was a force for good in the world. For me as my internal locus of control increased and became stronger I became more and more suspicious of all the authoritarian constructs. The concept of government is based upon the concept of Collectivism. Ayn Rand in her short essay “Textbook of Americanism” broke down the difference between “collectivism” and Individualism”.

The basic issue in the world today is between two principles: Individualism and Collectivism.
Individualism holds that man has inalienable rights which cannot be taken away from him by any other man, nor by any number, group or collective of other men. Therefore, each man exists by his own right and for his own sake, not for the sake of the group.
Collectivism holds that man has no rights; that his work, his body and his personality belong to the group; that the group can do with him as it pleases, in any manner it pleases, for the sake of whatever it decides to be its own welfare. Therefore, each man exists only by the permission of the group and for the sake of the group.
These two principles are the roots of two opposite social systems. The basic issue of the world today is between these two systems.

Not only are these two concepts at the roots of tow opposite social systems they are also key components of the two competing ways of thinking. Individualism is associated with having an Internal Locus of Control and Collectivisms demands that your will be subjugated by the government and thus is a key reason why most people today have an External Locus of Control. Their life choices are largely determined by others. They allow others to determine the direction and the limits of their life.

Religion and government are the two biggest reasons why most individuals have an external locus of control. If you want true Internal and External Freedom you have to avoid that. Only when you have an Internal Locus of Control can you being to be free. Having an internal locus of control encourages you to seek out solutions, to be kinder to others, to enlist your full mental machinery, to build your network, to increase your knowledge, and to grow as a human being. When we accept we are the captains of our ship and the masters of our fate then we pour all of our mental and physical energies into creating the life that we desire.

When we believe that our actions don’t have meaning and that our fate is determined by our environment, the majority, by those smarter than us, by our bosses, by the economy, by the next election, by an invisible bearded voyeuristic man, we  are giving up our power and sinking into apathy, fear, and hopelessness. Having an Internal Locus of Control simply means you understand that you own yourself, you are capable of taking care of yourself and that you wouldn’t have it any other way.

Individualism and having an Internal Locus of Control doesn’t mean that you don’t cooperate with others to accomplish things that benefit all involved. It doesn’t mean that you use force to compel others to do what you say or that you are a loner who doesn’t need the help of anyone. Having an Internal Locus of Control doesn’t mean you live as a hermit or as a tyrant. The recognition that you own yourself also informs you that others own themselves as well. So the only self imposed shackles that you place upon yourself is to restrain the use of force for self-defense only. All actions that are peaceful are permissible in the achievement of your goals. If you deny the self-ownership and Internal Locus of Control of others than you deny it in yourself as well.

What do you believe? Do you want to be internally free? Do you want to have more external freedom? By having an External Locus of Control gives people excuses why their life isn’t what they want. They can sit around and complain to others like themselves about how everyone is against them and how the world is screwing them over. But they fail to realize they have given up the steering wheel of their life to others.  The world is full of preachers, policeman, corporations, and politicians who profit greatly from telling people what to think and what to do. They benefit from stealing your money and your life. But in reality their not stealing because you are willingly giving your Locus of Control to them. Don’t let fear destroy your freedom. Don’t let fear keep you from trying to improve your life. Don’t let fear keep you stuck in a rut that makes you want to turn over your life outcome to someone else.

If you live in a country that is overrun with a dictatorship or massive government intervention in your life you have choices. Unfortunately the trend around the world is for government to take more property and more freedom from individuals no matter where you live. Most people think they have no choice or they applaud the take over of their lives by those in power. If you are reading this you are not one of those people but don’t fall into despair. Remember your life and your fate are in your hands. Visualize a better life. Take actions each day to improve your life. Don’t fall into the trap of complaining or arguing over surface issues. Dig deep to the root of the issues in your own life and the issues in society. I guarantee you they all boil down to the two competing concepts of Individualism vs. Collectivism and the difference between having an Internal Locus of Control vs. an External Locus of Control.

No matter what circumstances you have going on you can improve your life. You have the power to do this. When you confidently move in a direction opportunities open up. Be ready for them. If you are not feeling well or have health issues take a step today in improving that, if your finances are troubling you make a plan today to increase your income, if you are lonely begin a program of self improvement. It is our thoughts and our actions that determine our fate. Don’t give power to those who want to oppress you. Throw open the locked door in your mind where your Internal Locus of Control sits. Hit the start button and watch it come to life. Soon your whole being and existence will be filled with its power coursing through you like lightning. As your mind becomes more and more free, you’ll begin improving your life more and more and thus creating your own external freedom without waiting on others to provide it for you.
